Disk drive is peripheral equipment in a computer or attached to the computer that is used to read, record and rewrite information stored on a disk. Disk drives are can be internal and external and have the function of regulating the input and output activities of the disk.

The major parts of a disk drive are; platter: this is the flat round disks on which data is stored and is coated with plastic or metal. Other major components are the spindle or motor for controlling the rotational speed, and read and write heads for converting magnetic fields on the disk and the logic board controls the parts movement and co-ordination.
