Disk is a hardware device employed for storing, manipulating, as well as retrieving data with a technique in either optical or magnetic disk technology. Disks are one of the most used devices in computers and other devices to store a number of forms of data.

Disks function in that data is recorded by being inscribed on it, with laser or magnetic technology being an example. During read/write cycle, the disk spins in order to avails a required area in the disk where the data is stored for the system. The evolution of the disks used has been as follows: the hard disk drives (HDDs), floppy disks, compact disks (CDs), and digital versatile disks (DVDs) have all been in use at particular moments.
