Demodulate

Idealogic’s Glossary

Demodulateis the process of separating the information signal from the transmitted signal in which the information signal is superimposed on the carrier wave. It has a key function in communication systems technologies as it helps in the decoding of the transmitted data to enable further working on it or interpretation. This entails demodulation, filtering, amplifying and further processing the received signal in a process of decoding with a view of recovering the desired information while at the same time eliminating the interference and noise.

Several techniques of demodulation are used depending on the type of modulation used for instance Amplitude Modulation (AM), Frequency Modulation (FM) or Phase Modulation (PM). In radio broadcasting, wireless networks as well as digital data transmission, demodulation guarantees the correct reception of data and further correct interpretation by the receiving devices.
