Baud Rate

Idealogic’s Glossary

Baud rate defined in bauds (Bd) is equal to the number of signal changes or symbols per second. This rate refers to the rate at which information can be exchanged between devices and the higher the baud rate the faster the exchange of information.

Baud rate in a way is proportional to bandwidth since the latter depends on the former for providing adequate bandwidth for signal transmission. The term ‘baud’ was derived from Émile Baudot, a French engineer, who designed the system.
