Control Bus

Idealogic’s Glossary

Control Bus is a series of lines where commands are expected to circulate meant for the regulation and coordination of various organs of the computer system such as the ALU, memory, and I/O channels. It provides the lines for transferring the signals required for read and write operations in the memory, interrupts, clocks, and other control signals needed for particular functional operations of the processor including instruction fetching, arithmetic and logic operations, and data transfer.

The Control Bus is responsible for the coordination of the several hardware units so that the instructions are executed in an orderly manner and data is transported as required. It acts as the structure through which the communication in the computer system and control as well is established.
