Diskette

Idealogic’s Glossary

Diskette or floppy disk is a storage device in form of a thin circular disk contained in a plastic shell with a square shape. To prevent the disk from being damaged by dust particles the material used in the design is fabric.

It is also a magnetic storage medium used for storing, writing, reading and manipulating data with the help of a computer. Floppy disks were first developed by IBM and got much popularity in the later part of the twentieth century. However, they are now seen as obsolete; they are now referred to as vintage technology.
