CRC

Idealogic’s Glossary

CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) It is a code that is used in storage devices and in digital networks to detect modifications that are unintended and that have happened to the data. The name suggests that the check performs redundancy checks by means of algorithmic cyclical codes.

The working of CRC is based on the technique where a predetermined number of bits known as check bits are added to the data to be transmitted. The receiver then checks on these check bits to determine if there is any error that has occurred. These check bits are usually encoded as 8-bit frames of data.
