CISC

Idealogic’s Glossary

CISC as in complex instruction set computer is the architecture of a computer that enables the system to perform several of the basic instructions at a go through the use of a single command. Such operations may range from simple ones as arithmetic operations to comprehensive ones such as addressing modes.

The advantages and disadvantages of association with CISC are as follows: The former comprises, for example, memory efficiency, lesser code range, and its popularity; The latter comprises a slower speed of execution, more complex structure, and greater power consumption as compared to RISC.
