CD-ROM

Idealogic’s Glossary

CD-ROM or Compact Disc Read-Only Memory is an optical disk digital data storage medium that uses audio, graphics, video, and text data that is stored in the computer. CD-ROMs are quite suitable for storing larger quantities of information such as games, applications and so on.

This type of disc writes data in binary form which is to say in ones and zeros and is read by reflecting light on the disc surface. These formats are rather rugged and quite resistant to damage when stored properly as opposed to the older formats such as floppy disks and they offer a far higher storage capacity, too.
