Benchmark

Idealogic’s Glossary

Benchmark – a software practice employed in the process of performance testing as a way of measuring quality. It is a basis for comparing software products or systems. By comparing the test results of software to benchmarks, engineers get a set of quantitative data and quantitative measures of program performance.

The other important characteristic of benchmarks is that it is repeatable. If a system’s outcome for a particular test differs greatly, then it shows that a benchmark has not been achieved.
